The Government Does Not Prioritize the Rights of Border Inhabitants and Human Rights in Discussions and Decisions: Ombudsman
The main reason for the issues related to the state borders of Armenia is that the Government does not prioritize the rights of border inhabitants and the general rights of individuals in its discussions and decisions. This was stated by the Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan on his Facebook page.
"As a result, the Government is failing to meet its positive obligations, making unacceptable mistakes regarding the rights of its citizens and, in particular, ensuring the normal life of border inhabitants. It is unacceptable to discuss all issues related to state borders solely from a political and military perspective, especially in the context of the anti-Armenian policy of the Azerbaijani authorities. The rights of individuals and, foremost, the rights of border inhabitants must be placed at the forefront, alongside the conditions for a normal life for border residents (including rights to life, property, dignity, safe living, the pursuit of happiness, and other rights). From these positions, we are also stronger in international platforms.
If this continues, the shortcomings and failures will only increase. We must not forget that democracy, human rights, and the rule of law are among the mandatory international principles of delimitation and demarcation," he wrote.
