Engaging with Russia is Not a Sign of Weakness: Biden Meets with NATO Leaders

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced after a meeting with US President Joe Biden on June 7 that the parties agreed to "deter, but at the same time engage in dialogue with Russia," DW reports.

Stoltenberg stated to reporters that they had discussed a wide range of issues including Russia, China, international terrorism, cyber threats, and climate change.

According to Stoltenberg, Biden and he share a consensus on the political stance towards Russia, which involves "external defense and dialogue." He also welcomed Biden's decision to meet with NATO leaders ahead of discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Geneva.

"Engaging with Russia is not a sign of weakness. We are strong, we are united. We need to have a dialogue with Russia," added the NATO Secretary General.

Earlier, Biden noted in an article for The Washington Post that Washington is "not seeking conflict with Moscow but rather wishes to establish stable relations." It is important to mention that the meeting between the Russian and US presidents will take place in Geneva on June 16.
