Armenia Appeals to ECHR for Fundamental Rights Protection of Armenian Soldier Captured by Azerbaijan
The Republic of Armenia has appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today regarding the protection of fundamental rights of an Armenian soldier captured by Azerbaijan. This was reported by Armenia's representative at the ECHR.
“As reported by the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, on June 8 of this year, Private A. Katanian, a contract serviceman of the RA Armed Forces N military unit, became disoriented due to fog and ended up in an area under the control of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. The purpose of the submitted application is to guarantee the captured serviceman's rights to life and protection from torture as ensured by the European Convention on Human Rights,” the statement reads.
