Russian Ambassador Visits Meghri Border Unit

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Armenia, Sergey Kopyrkin, visited the Meghri border unit of the Federal Security Service of Russia during his trip to the Syunik region on June 3. He familiarized himself with the service conditions and paid tribute to the memory of heroic border guard officers who lost their lives in different years in Armenia. This is reported by the Facebook page of the Russian Embassy in Armenia.

“The head of the Russian diplomatic mission visited the southernmost point of Armenia, where Russian border guards maintain a checkpoint at the intersection of the borders of Armenia, Iran, and Azerbaijan. He visited the ‘Karchavan’ border checkpoint and also met with the head of the Meghri community, Mkhitar Zakaryan,” the message states.

The Russian Ambassador also visited the ‘Agarak Copper-Molybdenum Combine’ LLC, which is one of the largest taxpayers and employers in the region. The director of the combine, Andrey Sinyakov, provided information about the company's current operations, including environmental measures being implemented and the transition to a closed-loop water use system by the end of June this year, which will virtually eliminate any negative impact on the environment. The director also shared insights on support for socio-economic development in the region and the implementation of socially significant projects.
