Negotiations in Moscow Yield No Results
Active negotiations have been underway in the capital of Russia, Moscow, in recent days between representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding the recent events in the border zone. This has been reported by "Hraparak.am." The aim of the negotiations was to achieve the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops that have invaded Armenia.
However, we have learned that the negotiations yielded no results. One of the reasons is that it was unacceptable to the other two parties that the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Arshak Karapetyan, represented Armenia. Apparently, they expected a higher-ranking official to attend, and despite Karapetyan's attempts to convince them that he is the second-highest official in Armenia, the parties remained firm in their position and urged that the first official should be present next time if Karapetyan is only the second-in-command.
Additionally, the Russian side seems to have shown little initiative, as while efforts are made in Moscow to resolve the volatile situation at Armenia's borders, the government propaganda machine is showcasing Prime Minister Pashinyan's visit to France and Macron's statements urging the Azerbaijani army to withdraw from Armenian territory. If an agreement were to be reached during the negotiations for the troops to indeed be withdrawn, it would be credited to the efforts of Western allies.
Our Russian sources have also informed us that the dates for the next meeting remain unknown, and it is possible that the next round of negotiations will take place after the elections.
