Georgia Opens Border, Turkish Trucks Not Banned from Entering Armenia, Customs Department Says
The Armenian-Georgian border has been opened as of today, and according to the Customs Department, there is already lively activity at the Bagratashen border checkpoint. This includes both cargo transportation and passenger flows.
Haik Avetisyan, the acting head of the Bagratashen customs checkpoint, stated that on the very first day of the open border, passenger flows from Armenia to Georgia and vice versa began around 10 AM, serving approximately 220 individuals.
Movement of citizens across the Armenian-Georgian border is also being facilitated through the Bavra checkpoint. The checkpoints are open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. If there is an increase in passenger flow, the customs checkpoints will operate around the clock.
The Customs Department also reminds that the ban on the import of Turkish goods into Armenia is still in effect, which extends to individual citizens as well. They are prohibited from importing Turkish-origin goods, even for personal use.
Regarding the entry of trucks with Turkish license plates into Armenia, Haik Avetisyan assured that goods imported by them will be subject to strict supervision. However, customs authorities do not have the authority to completely prohibit their entry.
“In essence, there are no such restrictions. Turkish trucks can conduct international freight transport, and it is not absolutely necessary for the import to come directly from Turkey; it can come from any other country,” said the head of the Bagratashen customs checkpoint.
