Possible Closure of Geneva Airspace During Russia-U.S. Presidents' Meeting

Switzerland is discussing the possible closure of Geneva's airspace during the Russia-U.S. summit scheduled for June 16. However, no final decision has been made on this matter yet. On June 1, Mireille Flerin, an official representative of the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports, announced this to TASS.

In response to a question regarding whether the airspace would be closed to flights during the summit, she stated, 'It is possible; measures will be taken to close and control the airspace. However, at this point, no final decision has been made on this issue.' Flerin emphasized that 'the preparations for the summit are ongoing.'

Putin and Biden are expected to meet in Geneva on June 16. This will be the first Russia-U.S. summit since July 2018, when the President of Russia met with then U.S. President Donald Trump in Helsinki.
