Minister Initiates Investigation into Masis Landfill Fire Incident
The information that the emergency service declined to respond to the emergency call regarding the landfill fire in Masis is untrue. This announcement was made today during a conversation with reporters at the National Assembly's budget discussion for 2020 by Andranik Piloyan, the acting Minister of Emergency Situations of Armenia.
“This is not true. To clarify the information, a service investigation has already been initiated by the director of the emergency service,” said Piloyan. However, without waiting for the investigation results, the acting minister expressed confidence that it will become clear that such a thing did not happen.
“It was simply a misunderstanding. Whoever called did not call 911, but instead called the regional duty service, and naturally, the duty officer reported to the head of the department that such a call had been received, and the staff participated in firefighting operations,” Piloyan added.
It is worth mentioning that on May 22, the Ararat regional crisis management center received reports of a fire outbreak at the landfill in Masis. Efforts to combat the fire are still ongoing.
