Is Hayk Marutyan Leaving? – ‘Zhoghovurd’
According to sources close to the Yerevan municipality from the ‘Zhoghovurd’ newspaper, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan has recently been in a tense mood. The newspaper reports that Marutyan has stated in his close circles that regardless of whether the current authorities are re-elected or not, his tenure will be impossible.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan intends to hold elections for Yerevan mayor in September if re-elected. In the event of the opposition’s success, particularly if Robert Kocharian is elected, Marutyan has no chance of continuing. The newspaper indicates that recently, Marutyan has not been communicating with anyone, including his teammates and employees, and it can be said that life in the municipality has come to a standstill.
He is not doing anything regarding the early parliamentary elections. The responsibility for bringing votes for the ruling party in Yerevan has been taken on by businessman Khachatur Sukiasyan, while Arsen Torosyan is handling the campaign aspect. It is worth noting that the next session of the Yerevan council is scheduled for June 22, two days after the early parliamentary elections. The council is expected to present the budget execution of the municipality.
