Georgia Opens Land Borders for Tourists
Georgia has opened its land borders for tourists starting today, which had been closed since March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. This decision was made by the Interagency Coordination Council on Combating Coronavirus under the Prime Minister, as reported by TASS.
As stated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili during a government meeting, the opening of borders is expected to contribute to an increase in tourist numbers, positively impacting economic recovery. “We anticipate a swift recovery of the tourism sector. Naturally, the opening of borders starting tomorrow will serve as another important impetus for the restoration of our economy,” Garibashvili said.
It is noted that tourists from Armenia, as well as from Russia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, who are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus and present a negative COVID-19 test certificate at the border, will be able to enter Georgia without any obstacles. Additionally, citizens who have received only the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine will be allowed to enter Georgia based on a test result obtained at least 72 hours before crossing the border, provided they take another COVID-19 test on the third day of their stay in Georgia.
It is worth mentioning that tourists from Armenia, as well as from Russia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, could already visit Georgia through air travel since February 1.
