Russian Ambassador States Restrictions on Flights to Turkey Won't Be Lifted Quickly

The Russian Ambassador to Turkey, Alexey Yerkhov, announced in Ankara that the restrictions on flights from Russia to Turkey will not be lifted quickly. A decision was made on April 12 to suspend air communication with Turkey from April 15 to June 1 due to the worsening situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

“We remember the events of last year when we tried to guess when the tourist season might open. We waited and waited, first for June, then for July, but the season for air travel from Russia was fully opened only on August 10,” he recalled.

Yerkhov pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, as thousands of tests show positive results and people are dying every day. Therefore, this matter is under the control of the agencies of the two countries, which are obliged to ensure the health of the local population and tourists arriving from the south.
