Details on Fatal Car Accident Outside 'Shangri La' Casino

On May 30, 2021, around 04:30, on the Yerevan-Sevan highway, near the 'Shangri La' casino, a Nissan vehicle lost control, veered off the road, and struck an iron electricity pole in the green area of the median strip. As a result, two passengers in the vehicle died at the scene from their injuries, while the driver was taken to a medical center with bodily injuries.

In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated by the Kotayk Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee in the Abovyan investigative division under Article 242, Part 2, Subparagraph 3 of the RA Criminal Code.

During the preliminary investigation, various investigative and procedural actions have been carried out, including an examination of the accident site. Surveillance cameras available at the restaurant complex adjacent to the scene were seized and reviewed. The two passengers of the vehicle have been identified as victims, and post-mortem examinations have been appointed.

A decision has been made to choose a signature not to leave as a precautionary measure for the driver of the vehicle, who has also been interrogated. A forensic chemical examination has been appointed to determine the presence or absence of alcohol in his body.
