We Have a World Champion: Liana Gyurjyan Defeats Turkish Competitor

The Youth Weightlifting Championship is ongoing in Tashkent. Today, the 81 kg category girls took to the platform. Armenia was represented in this weight category by Liana Gyurjyan, who delivered an outstanding performance and became the world champion.

Liana successfully executed all three of her attempts, first lifting weights of 90, 95, and 98 kg in the snatch event, and then lifted 117, 121, and 125 kilograms in the clean and jerk event. After the snatch, Liana was in third place overall, but the Colombian competitor who took first place could not participate in the competition due to age restrictions.

Similarly, the Colombian was also first in the clean and jerk, while Liana secured second, but her result couldn’t be considered competitive. Thus, Liana emerged as the winner of the championship. Our athlete also won a small gold and silver medal. Second place was claimed by Turkish athlete Dilara Ukkan. In the overall results, Liana was able to surpass her by 1 kilogram.
