The Reason Behind Ayvazyan's Resignation Revealed

During the meeting of the Security Council yesterday, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made the following proposal: "The proposal is as follows: we agree that very quickly the armed units of both sides, meaning the armed forces, will withdraw from the border in a mirror manner. That is, there is a notion regarding the border: 5 kilometers this side, that side, with certain kilometers of difference—one, two, three. Presumably, we are suggesting that the armed forces withdraw entirely from these areas back to their permanent stations. In return, international observers should be stationed along the supposed border line, either representing Russia or the co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group."

Well-informed sources from ArmLur.am report that the former Minister of Foreign Affairs Ara Ayvazyan urged Pashinyan not to make such a statement at the Security Council meeting. However, Pashinyan remained unyielding and made an announcement that had not been agreed upon with the Foreign Ministry, after which the minister resigned. According to ArmLur.am, the deputy ministers of foreign affairs submitted their resignation letters following Ayvazyan's resignation, which will be published soon.

Sources also conveyed that the parade of resignations will continue. The fact is that several high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Defense have also submitted their resignation letters. The same situation exists within the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia. NSS high-ranking officials decided to leave the system after Pashinyan's recent statement. According to ArmLur.am, resignation letters asked by the government have yet to be published until the authorities manage to find replacements for the resigned officials. This indicates a collapse and instability within the state system.

It is worth reminding that earlier, independent MP Taguhi Tovmasyan expressed confusion regarding the document to be signed by Pashinyan.
