Celebrating Republic Day at the Armenian Embassy in Romania
On May 26, an event dedicated to the life and activities of the public, political, and military figures of the First Republic of Armenia was held at the Armenian Embassy in Romania, in connection with Republic Day. This was reported by the Armenian Embassy in Romania.
The event was opened by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Sergey Minasian, who noted that after the collapse of the First Republic of Armenia, several prominent Armenian political and military figures settled in Romania. Among them was Minister of Defense Drastamat Kanayan, who also made significant contributions to the life of the Romanian-Armenian community.
The ambassador also touched upon the significance of the day, stating, "More than 100 years ago, with the victories of Sardarapat and other May victories, as well as the proclamation of the First Republic, our statehood was restored, fulfilling the age-old dream of the Armenian people to live freely and independently. I am confident that today Armenia, Artsakh, and the Diaspora will overcome the current challenges together."
During the event, attendees listened to excerpts from the novel "The Book of Whispers" by Varuzhan Voskanyan, read by Romanian-Armenian actors Armine Voskanyan and Florin Kevorkyan, which depict the life and activities of Drastamat Kanayan and his relations with the Romanian-Armenian community.
At the end of the event, Ambassador Minasian presented the "Moses Khorenatsi" medal awarded by the President of Armenia to prominent member of the Romanian-Armenian community, journalist, writer, and translator Madlena Garagashyan.
