Tatoyan Presents Findings of Human Rights Defender Activities in Gegharkunik and Syunik Regions to the President

The President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, met with the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan. The meeting was reported by the public relations department of the presidential administration.

During the discussion, the President and the Human Rights Defender addressed the situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Arman Tatoyan presented the findings of the Human Rights Defender's office regarding the fact-finding activities conducted in the Gegharkunik and Syunik regions, emphasizing that the illegal presence of Azerbaijani armed forces in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia is a blatant violation of the rights of the entire population, particularly affecting border residents.

He specifically noted that the implementation of a security zone concept along the entire border with Azerbaijan, especially around Syunik and Gegharkunik, would create a real opportunity for the protection of citizens' rights and security.

The President and the Human Rights Defender underscored the importance of effective actions by relevant state bodies to ensure the safety and rights of Armenia's population, as well as the active collaboration with international partners to prevent illegal acts by Azerbaijani armed forces and to ensure that such manifestations are not permitted in the future.
