No Reports of Vote Buying by the Authorities, Such Rumors Linked to Familiar Circles: Pashinyan

In the lead-up to the parliamentary elections in Armenia, there are already three operational cases concerning the potential distribution of vote bribery. This was stated by Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a question-and-answer session with government members in the National Assembly, in response to the observation made by LHK member Sargis Aleksanyan regarding rumors circulating about the distribution of vote bribes.

Pashinyan responded, saying that the MP forgot to mention an important nuance: this is not being carried out by the authorities. “I have serious doubts that there are any rumors in Armenia suggesting that the current authorities or the ruling party are involved in vote-buying. Rumors are being spread related to circles you and we are familiar with. The law enforcement agencies are aware of these rumors. I honestly advise against those who intend to restore the logic of old traditions,” said the acting Prime Minister.

He does not believe that any future amnesties would be extended to cases concerning vote bribery. Moreover, promising vote bribes is already considered a criminal offense. “I have been informed that there are already 3 operational cases underway in several directions, the identity of the individuals involved has been clarified, and operational measures are being taken regarding them, which, of course, they are not aware of,” Pashinyan stated, assuring that all necessary measures would be undertaken.

The acting Prime Minister mentioned that his administration has no doubts about the LHK regarding the distribution of vote bribes, and the LHK also does not suspect the government. He emphasized that a significant portion of the authorities and the opposition do not suspect each other of having intentions to distribute vote bribes.
