LHK Urges Armenian Government to Immediately Address UN Security Council
The 'Enlightened Armenia' party has issued a statement calling for action: "Considering the fact that Azerbaijani armed forces have not withdrawn from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia since May 12, 2021, violating the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and employing weaponry,
Taking into account that Azerbaijan has factually breached and continues to violate the fundamental (jus cogens) principles enshrined in Article 2 of the UN Charter,
Considering that Azerbaijan not only continues to occupy part of the territory of the Republic of Armenia but also incites armed clashes, resulting in casualties and injuries among the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia today, on May 25,
Based on Article 34 of the UN Charter, which empowers the UN Security Council to investigate any dispute or situation that might lead to international tension or conflict, in order to determine whether the continuation of such dispute or situation threatens international peace and security,
Grounded in the first part of Article 35 of the UN Charter, whereby any member of the Organization may bring to the attention of the Security Council or the General Assembly any dispute or situation of the nature referred to in Article 34,
Based on Chapter VII of the UN Charter, particularly Article 39, which stipulates that the Security Council determines the existence of any threat to peace, breach of the peace, or act of aggression, and makes recommendations or decides on measures to be taken under Articles 41 and 42 to maintain or restore international peace and security,
We urge the Government of the Republic of Armenia, via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to immediately apply to the UN Security Council due to the threat to international peace and security arising from Azerbaijan's aggression and the violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia. This statement is open for signing by all political forces."
