A Third Criminal Case Filed Against Navalny
The investigation has initiated a third criminal case against Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny for insulting a judge. This was reported by the Interfax news agency.
“Currently, three criminal cases are being investigated against Navalny, the latest of which has been filed under the article for ‘disrespecting the court,’ which has manifested in insulting the judge. In all criminal cases, Navalny is considered a suspect,” said Navalny's lawyer Olga Mikhailova in response to the agency's inquiry.
Navalny is suspected of insulting Judge Vera Akimova, who had found the opposition figure guilty of defaming a veteran. Meanwhile, Navalny's Instagram page reports that the day before, he was visited by a senior investigator from the Russian Investigative Committee's department for especially important cases, who informed him about the investigation into three criminal cases. According to him, 21 investigators are examining the cases.
The publication notes that the investigator did not explain to Navalny how he had insulted the judge. The opposition figure denies his guilt and considers the criminal prosecution to be politically motivated.
Since mid-March, Navalny has been in Federal Penitentiary Service No. 2 in the vicinity of Pokrov, Vladimir region, where he is serving a sentence related to the Iv Roche case. Additionally, there are ongoing criminal cases regarding the embezzlement of donations to his anti-corruption foundation (recognized as a foreign agent in Russia) and the creation of a non-profit organization that violates citizens' identities and rights.
