Dust Intrusion from Arabian Deserts Reported in Armenia

The Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center reports: "As predicted, on May 21 and 22, due to the influx of tropical warm air currents from the Arabian deserts, a significant increase in temperatures was observed throughout the republic. A record high temperature was registered on May 21, when the air temperature in the Ararat Plain and Yerevan rose to +36...+36.3 degrees, exceeding the historical record of +35.3 degrees set in 1999 by 1 degree.

On May 22, a large concentration of dust-laden air currents flowed into the territory of the republic from these desert regions, resulting in a dust cloud covering the sky mainly over the Ararat Plain and Yerevan, sharply reducing horizontal visibility.

Starting from the coming hours, this warm air wave will retreat towards the south, making way for a cyclone penetrating from the Black Sea. The influence of the cyclone will persist until May 27, during which time short-term thunderstorm rains are expected in most regions of the republic, especially in the evenings and nights, with possible hail in certain areas.

The air temperature will decrease by 5-7 degrees across the entire territory of the republic from May 23 to 25."
