Shooting at Protesters in Syria Leaves Five Dead
Fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a Kurdish-Arab coalition, opened fire on peaceful protesters in the Al-Hasakah province. The citizens were demonstrating against a decision by the Kurdish administration to increase fuel prices. This was reported to RIA Novosti by an informed source on the ground.
"Residents of the towns of Kana, Al-Hadja, Rashidiya, and Hadadiya in Al-Hasakah province took to the streets to protest the Kurdish administration's decision to raise fuel prices in the areas under their control. SDF militants opened fire on the protesters to disperse them, resulting in five fatalities," the agency’s source said.
According to another source, the protesters blocked the Al-Hasakah-Deir ez-Zor road in response to SDF attacks on civilians. "The residents burned an SDF checkpoint located to the east of the city of Shaddadi, south of Al-Hasakah province," the source added.
