Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Stanislav Zas Discuss Armenian-Azerbaijani Border Issues
On May 17, a phone conversation took place between Acting Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan and the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas.
During the conversation, Vagharshak Harutyunyan presented the current situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, noting that despite the fact that, according to the agreements reached, several groups of Azerbaijani military personnel returned to their initial positions in the previous days and today, some of them still remain on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. This indicates that the issue created by Azerbaijani provocations has not been resolved.
The head of Armenia's defense department emphasized that considering the fact that Azerbaijani soldiers are under the complete control of Armenian units, and that significant forces have accumulated on both sides in these border areas, the consequences of failing to resolve the situation quickly could be unpredictable.
Stanislav Zas, in turn, remarked that the CSTO is closely monitoring the developments surrounding the situation and that it will be discussed in the upcoming days at the meeting of the foreign ministers of CSTO member states scheduled to take place in Dushanbe.
