Emergency Situation: Rockfall and Road Collapse on the Megrin Highway
An emergency situation has occurred in the Syunik region. A road collapse and rockfall have taken place on the 357.5 km stretch of the Yerevan-Meghri highway.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, as a result of the collapse and rockfall, a section of the road approximately 50 meters long and 6 meters wide has been completely blocked, and traffic has been halted.
The personnel of the 2nd company from the 6th battalion of the Road Police, led by battalion commander Gegham Margaryan, have arrived promptly on the scene.
Also responding quickly were the staff from Meghri's road service, who, under the direction of their head, are currently working with special equipment to clear the road.
Efforts are also underway to determine if there are any injuries from the incident and whether any individuals or vehicles are trapped under the fallen rocks.
The Road Police are conducting enhanced monitoring in the area to ensure that Meghri’s road service can continue their necessary operations.
Several tons of earth and stones have fallen.
