Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Stanislav Zas Discuss the Situation in Syunik
On May 14, the Acting Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, Vagharshak Harutyunyan, had a telephone conversation with the Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Stanislav Zas.
Vagharshak Harutyunyan provided detailed information about the situation in Syunik created as a result of Azerbaijani provocations and the actions taken by the Armenian side. Emphasizing the importance of a peaceful resolution to the situation, Harutyunyan nonetheless deemed such provocations against the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia unacceptable, noting that they significantly threaten the already fragile peace and pose a threat to regional security.
The Armenian Minister of Defense also informed that the Republic of Armenia has officially appealed to the Collective Security Treaty Organization regarding the created situation.
It is noteworthy that Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Stanislav Zas had a telephone conversation on the evening of May 13 as well, after which the CSTO press service issued a statement mentioning, in particular, that the organization is closely monitoring events in the border areas of Armenia’s Syunik Province. In parallel with the development of the situation, actions will be taken if necessary in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Security Treaty and the CSTO regulations.
