If the Enemy Advances Even One Step, We Will Take Very Serious Measures: Vardenis Community Leader
“I’m busy, there’s machinery working here, that’s what I’m dealing with,” said Artem Yeranosyan, the administrative head of the Verin Shorja community, in a conversation with Aravot.am.
When asked if there is any new information about the situation, and whether the enemy’s advance of 300-400 meters has been halted, Yeranosyan stated that the situation is the same as yesterday; they remain in the same place.
In a conversation with News.am, Mr. Yeranosyan noted that the Azerbaijanis have advanced an additional 300-400 meters towards Vardenis, with machinery working all night. Despite this, Gegharkunik Governor Gnel Sanosyan, in response to journalists’ questions while rushing to a government meeting yesterday, stated that the Azerbaijanis have not advanced, but rather that a clarification of borders is taking place, which had not been conducted in November-December due to weather conditions and difficult terrain.
In an interview with Aravot.am, Vardenis Community Leader Aram Melkonyan mentioned that the enemy’s advancement occurred in the second half of the day. He stated that the borders of Armenia are protected by our border guards, who now have quite good control. According to him, our border guards know individually how many people have crossed the Republic of Armenia border: “The issue lies elsewhere. Since there is a ceasefire, there is no way to prevent those people; when we saw that the Azerbaijanis had deployed in our territory, we understood that there was no order to stop those people. They have merely advanced a little while talking, towards the Armenian border.”
According to the community leader’s information, the Azerbaijanis are in small groups of about 20 people. He also mentioned that they are a few kilometers away from the Verin Shorja settlement after the advance, yet only a few hundred meters from the settlements where regional residents ascend in the summer.
According to Aram Melkonyan, since yesterday afternoon, they have come to the conclusion with the command of the 2nd Army Corps, the governor, and regional commanders that if the enemy advances even one step, they will take very serious measures: “In the second half of the day, with the entire community's construction machinery and our resources, we are reinforcing our positions with the army corps. If the enemy repeats its actions, they will face a very serious counter-strike. Our forces have tripled since the second half of the day, so that residents can feel secure.”
