Decisive and Tough Actions Will Be Taken to Preserve the Sovereign Territory of Armenia: Arman Abovyan
During an extraordinary session, Arman Abovyan, the secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction, presented a statement regarding the crisis situation that emerged on May 12 in border areas, particularly in Syunik and Gegharkunik, addressing existing issues and solutions concerning the protection of borders and ensuring security.
BHK proposes the adoption of this statement in the extraordinary session.
The statement notably mentions: “It has been reported during a session of the National Security Council of Armenia that there has been a crisis situation around Lake Sevan in Syunik Province for three consecutive days. The actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces are unacceptable for Armenia; this constitutes an obvious encroachment on the sovereign territory of Armenia, and Armenia will not tolerate this situation in any case.
Taking into account Azerbaijan's belligerent policies against Armenia, the recent open claims by Azerbaijani leadership against the territorial integrity of Armenia, including numerous statements containing threats of the use of force, as well as decades of state-sponsored anti-Armenianism, the National Assembly of Armenia strongly condemns the encroachments by Azerbaijan on the territorial integrity of Armenia and notes that the aggressive policies pursued by Azerbaijan violate the fundamental principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter, which entitles Armenia to undertake commensurate actions as stipulated in Armenian legislation and constitution.
The National Assembly, as the highest representative body of the Armenian people, declares that decisive and tough actions will be taken to halt Azerbaijan’s military aggression and to preserve the Armenian people and the sovereign territory. It calls on the international community to condemn Azerbaijan's provocative actions against Armenia’s territorial integrity, threats of force and actual use, which threaten the fragile peace and security in the region,” emphasized Arman Abovyan.
