Trial Session Begins for Serzh Sargsyan and Others

At the General Jurisdiction Court of Yerevan’s Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts, chaired by Judge Vahe Misakyan, the trial session for the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, and others continues. The defense team submitted a motion, stating: "We request the court to assist the defense in obtaining necessary materials, specifically asking the prosecution to demand and provide copies of all documents as of December 18, 2020, to be attached to the criminal case and made available for the defense's review."

Amram Makinyan, one of Sargsyan's lawyers, mentioned that there are documents missing from the case. "My colleague justified that certain documents were selectively taken and placed in the file that is now before both you and us, while the main criminal case contains documents that we have not been able to view. Under these circumstances, we are dealing with a selective and cherry-picked accusation, where the prosecuting body has taken what it wanted and placed it in the other package. Let's see what exists in that original package that the prosecuting body did not include. We are confident in the unscrupulousness of the prosecuting body, and it does not leave room for doubt. I ask you to grant the motion," he said.

It is noted that according to the accusations against Serzh Sargsyan, "from April 9, 2008, to April 9, 2018, during his presidency, as a permanent representative of the authority, using his official position, he organized the embezzlement of a particularly large amount of money—489,160,310 AMD—through misappropriation by a group of officials from January 25 to February 7, 2013."
