Drug Addicts Rob Veteran of 100,000 Rubles Under the Pretext of May 9 Celebrations
The police in Saint Petersburg have detained two men for robbing a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by the Interfax news agency, citing the regional branch of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to police reports, the suspects, both young men with a history of drug addiction, attended the home of a 99-year-old veteran under the guise of congratulating him for Victory Day on May 9. The veteran did not let the guests inside and stepped outside to talk on the stairs, where one of the men forcibly took a cross chain from the veteran's neck.
After the robbery, both men fled the scene. The value of the stolen cross chain is estimated at 100,000 rubles. The victim noted that he was familiar with one of the men, who had previously provided him plumbing services.
Sources from Interfax revealed that the robbery victim is Evgeny Lezov, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, who has been awarded the Order of the Patriotic War 1st class and the medal for the Defense of Moscow.
