Before Attacking Kazan School, Galyaviev Tried to Set His Apartment on Fire. Victims' Burial Will Take Place Today
Ilnaz Galyaviev, who opened fire at a school in Kazan the day before, attempted to set his apartment on fire prior to the crime. This was reported by Gazeta.ru, citing the Baza Telegram channel.
It is mentioned that on Tuesday morning around 9 a.m., the suspect poured ammonium nitrate (saltpeter) on one of the doors of his house, set it on fire, and left. The fire did not spread, and prosecutors conducted a search of the young man's residence after the incident at the school.
According to Baza's information, law enforcement discovered several packages of saltpeter, an unidentified powdery substance, and aluminum powder at Galyaviev's home. The suspect brought a “Hatsan Escort” shotgun to the educational institution, along with 445 cartridges, a knife, and several dozen rounds.
Today, May 12, the victims of the school shooting will be buried. “The relatives of the deceased themselves decide where the deceased will be buried. The authorities assist in organizational matters,” said Lilia Galimova, head of the press service of the President of Tatarstan, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Recall that on May 11, a shooting occurred at school number 175 in Kazan. Currently, nine deaths have been confirmed, and 21 people have been injured. The 19-year-old assailant Ilnaz Galyaviev has been arrested. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the attack on the school.
