My Computer Was Broken, 15 People Were Hitting Me: Details from the Beaten Employee of the Center Community Administration

Today, Manvel Margaryan, head of the Urban Development and Land Use Department at the Center Community Administration in Yerevan, was hospitalized with various injuries after a violent incident. In an interview with Haykakan Zhamanak, he stated that he sustained injuries to different parts of his body as well as to his face and head.

“About 15 people were hitting me, I no longer understood who they were and what was happening. But the main actors were Armen Azizyan and Armen Davoyan, the others were just supporting from the side,” Margaryan recounted.

When asked what the argument had started over, he said, “They were saying, either write a resignation letter or leave the office. I said I wasn't going to go, they resorted to the use of force, broke my computer, and were throwing my things out. During the incident, people from the Prosecutor's Office arrived, saw what happened, but did nothing. I don’t know what kind of country is being built today. They are witnesses, but they say it doesn’t fall within our authority. This is simply hooliganism. I never imagined such things could happen in a public institution and go unpunished,” said Margaryan.

Regarding the incident, Zarzand Gabrielian from the press division of the RA Police told Haykakan Zhamanak, “We received a call about a brawl in the Center Community Administration. Currently, materials are being prepared at the Central Division regarding the incident.” When asked if any arrests had been made, Gabrielian said, “Not at this time.”

Haykakan Zhamanak also sought a comment from the Yerevan Municipality regarding the incident. “If we are talking about the information available in the media, there are apparent data that lead us to believe that the matter is under investigation by law enforcement agencies. During certain stages of this investigation, specific conclusions will be made and corresponding measures taken,” said the Mayor's spokesperson Hakob Karapetyan, adding that they do not currently have enough information to provide an assessment of the situation.

It should be noted that this morning, a brawl occurred between Manvel Margaryan, the head of the Urban Development and Land Use Department, and the deputy head of the administrative district along with several employees. The administration's leadership had very rudely instructed Margaryan to vacate his office, which led to an argument and a scuffle, resulting in Margaryan's deteriorating health and his subsequent hospitalization by ambulance.
