Emergency Declared in Several US States Due to Cybercriminal Attack
A sudden unexpected shutdown of Colonial's pipeline system occurred in the United States due to network-related issues. This, in turn, has affected the supply of gasoline and various types of fuel. Estimates suggest that resolving the recent incident may take several days.
The situation is significant enough that the US Department of Transportation has declared a state of emergency in New York, Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi, and several other southern and eastern states.
It has been revealed that on May 6, a cybercriminal group known as DarkSide managed to steal nearly 100 gigabytes of data from the Colonial company's branch located in Alpharetta, Georgia, in just 2 hours.
