War Could Have Been Avoided, Unjust Status Quo May Lead to New Conflict, Says 'Armenia' Alliance

The unjust status quo may lead to a new war; therefore, we support the resumption of negotiations mediated by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group aimed at restoring the territory of Artsakh based on the right to self-determination and ensuring a guaranteed effective land connection between Artsakh and Armenia.

This statement was made by Viktor Sogomonyan, head of the office of the second President Robert Kocharyan, during the presentation of the 'Armenia' alliance’s platform.

He also emphasized that the 'Armenia' alliance is committed to the international recognition and condemnation of Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression and war crimes, and they will address the issue of the return of captives.

“We are convinced that the war could have been avoided if the negotiations had not hit a dead end due to shortsighted and irresponsible actions. Both the war and the preceding and subsequent processes must be subjects of investigation and receive comprehensive legal and political evaluation,” he noted, adding that they rule out the concentration of power in the hands of a single individual, the dismantling of state authority institutions, and lawlessness of the government.
