Lukashenko Signs Decree on Power Transfer After Belarusian President's Death
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has signed a decree regarding the transfer of power in the event of the leader's violent death, aimed at protecting sovereignty and constitutional order. This was reported by BelTA, referencing the press service of the Belarusian leader.
The document outlines the protocol for actions in the event of the president's death resulting from an "assassination attempt, terrorist act, foreign aggression, or other violent actions." According to the decree, state bodies must comply with the decisions of the country's Security Council, which is led by the Prime Minister.
At the same time, a state of emergency or martial law will be immediately imposed in Belarus, with measures for their enforcement also determined by the Security Council.
"The main issue will be the conduct of elections. The Security Council, with the participation of regional governors, will decide on their implementation. The goal of the decree is to maintain the country's independence and sovereignty," the statement said.
