Arthur Davtyan on Prisoners and Wanted Azerbaijanis
The work regarding prisoners is a serious part of our daily activities. In this regard, our Russian counterpart, the prosecutor general of Russia, is fully involved in the process, and using this channel gives us the opportunity to make clarifications on the lists and, in particular, to convey information about torture and killings, and also together with our partner to clearly present legal demands that legal processes should follow. This was noted by the Prosecutor General of Armenia, Arthur Davtyan, during a conversation with reporters at the National Assembly on May 7.
“These are based on the evidence obtained within the framework of criminal cases. That is, factual circumstances are recorded in these cases. We share this information with our Russian colleagues, and with their mediation, it becomes possible for Azerbaijan to take these issues seriously and realize its high responsibility,” he said.
When asked how many Azerbaijani soldiers or officials the Armenian side has issued wanted notices for, Arthur Davtyan replied, “Yes, we have numerous pursuits, and I hope you all take this issue seriously enough to understand that it is unjustified to discuss it publicly.”
To the observation that the Azerbaijani side publicly announces, for example, that they have issued a wanted notice for Seyran Ohanyan, the prosecutor replied, “That does not mean that just because they are talking, we should act in the same way. We approach the issue from a legal standpoint and naturally, assessing the effectiveness of our work, we conclude that discussing it publicly would be harmful. We have always taken our countermeasures, all of which have yielded results. They cannot carry out any effective pursuit against our citizens.”
