Statement from the Union of Reserve Officers of the NSS

“In the last one or two years, the criminal situation in the republic has sharply changed, especially with an increase in the number of crimes committed against individuals using firearms. Just in the last two weeks, there have been murders involving firearms in Vayk and Vagharshapat, which journalists have compared to the brutal scenes of Hollywood action films due to their extreme violence.

A murder attempt using a firearm has also been reported in the famous part of the Tokhmakh cemetery in Yerevan. Names associated with the Shengavit and Malatia-Sebastia mayors are circulating in connection with the incident, who hastened to declare that their presence in that area at such a late hour was merely a matter of coincidence. It is worth noting that just days before this incident, there was a report to the police station in Shengavit about gunshot damage to the mayor's car.

The particular danger of the situation is that attempts may be made to conceal the real circumstances of the case and the names of those involved. Is this type of situation, turning Armenia into a battlefield of criminal disputes, not a consequence of the fact that our police colleagues, having to leave their main duties, see their only responsibility as protecting one individual's safety, while being occupied with peaceful demonstrators, including Armenian women, mothers, and daughters, by throwing them ‘to the asphalt’ and taking them to police stations? We do not believe that this approach should define the duty of the Armenian police,” the statement from the Union of Reserve Officers of the NSS reads.
