China to Penalize Promoting Gluttony and Wasteful Food Use
In an effort to combat excessive food use and waste, Chinese authorities will impose penalties for promoting gluttony and the wasteful use of food. The government aims to instill a habit of moderation and a frugal attitude towards food among the population, according to the relevant text of the law.

The Chinese government has long faced the challenge of feeding its vast population. While this issue has been addressed, the authorities are now focused on tackling large-scale waste. On April 29, China's parliament approved a law against the wasteful use of food, which took effect on the same day.
Last year, Chinese leader Xi Jinping described food waste as "appalling and shocking" and called for a campaign to promote moderation among citizens. He urged the public to develop a sense of shame regarding food wastage.
