Cleanup Works in the Coastal Areas of Rivers Flowing into Lake Sevan
As part of the program "Restoration of Riverbank Areas in Armenia", cleanup works have commenced in the coastal areas of rivers flowing into Lake Sevan in Gegharkunik Province.
The aim of the program is to mitigate the socio-economic effects of COVID-19 by combining environmental measures with opportunities for temporary income. From April 29 to May 3, residents of the Tsakqar and Lichk communities carried out cleanup efforts along the Tsakqar and Lichk rivers, resulting in the collection of over 12,000 kg of waste and 70 kg of recyclable materials.
The program provides temporary employment and income for those affected by the socio-economic consequences of the pandemic, contributing to the restoration of the ecosystems of Lake Sevan and its flowing rivers.
The works are coordinated by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, and the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ).
