Azerbaijan Is Trying to Turn the Issue of Prisoners from Legal to Political, Says Ombudsman
Our primary task now should be to demonstrate that the same policy that took place in the Ottoman Empire is being applied now. This was stated by the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, during a conversation with journalists.
Addressing the issue of the return of prisoners, the Ombudsman noted that Azerbaijan is trying to mislead the international community and turn this issue from a legal one to a political one. “They claim that anyone who was in Azerbaijan after November 9 is a terrorist, but those before November 9 are not. Then they also say that they no longer have prisoners of war. This is an obvious manipulative interpretation, and we must tell the international community that this conflict has not ended. After November 9, there is the same military void, and the ongoing conflict has existed even before November 9; therefore, anyone can be considered a prisoner of war. Armed attacks have stopped, but we are still in a state of war,” said Arman Tatoyan.
