Another Hotbed of Hostility: Human Rights Defender Studies the Impact of the 'Park' in Azerbaijani Society
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia will soon publish a new report that evidences how the 'park' opened in Baku is a vivid manifestation of Azerbaijan's policy of hatred against Armenians and serves as an additional hotbed of hostility. This opinion was expressed by Armenia's Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan during a meeting of the National Assembly’s permanent committee on human rights protection and public affairs, presenting the annual report on the activities of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia and the state of protection of human rights and freedoms in 2020.
According to the Human Rights Defender, the policy of hatred and animosity against Armenians in Azerbaijan is still ongoing. The opening of the 'park' in Baku is considered by the Human Rights Defender as a striking manifestation of this policy.
The Human Rights Defender has prepared an additional urgent report, which will be published within 1-2 days. 'We have studied the impact of this 'park' on Azerbaijani society. We have evidenced and shown that it is an additional hotbed of hatred and enmity, and this is done intentionally to inflict suffering on the Armenian society,' Tatoyan noted, recalling that there are ethnically motivated murders and atrocities in Azerbaijan, which have been proven and confirmed by the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights.
He explained why he mentions that Azerbaijan's policy approaches fascism. The President of Azerbaijan has, in particular, noted the superiority of the Azerbaijani people over the Armenian people in his speeches on April 12 and 13, degrading the dignity of Armenians. 'This implies that a person is bad based on their national belonging,' the Human Rights Defender emphasized.
The Human Rights Defender also examined Turkish sources and observed that the same hatred is equally disseminated through Turkish media. On April 12, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visited the newly opened 'park' in Baku that displays military equipment taken as spoils from the recent war in Artsakh. This 'park' is located in an area of 5 hectares, showcasing armored vehicles of the Armenian army, helmets belonging to Armenian soldiers, and so on.
