Turkey Accuses Greece of Militarizing Another Island

The former chief secretary of Turkey's Ministry of Defense, Colonel Ümit Yalım, expressed concerns over Greece's militarization of islands in the Aegean and Mediterranean seas that were supposed to remain demilitarized, in an interview with the 'Sözcü' newspaper. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.

According to the Turkish military officer, the Treaty of Lausanne prohibits the militarization of 14 small islands in the Aegean Sea, yet Greece has already militarized 13 of these islands. Only Halki Island remains unmilitarized.

The latest militarized island is Kasos, which has an area of 64 square kilometers and a population of around 900 residents. The Greek government has constructed a 1,200-meter-long airport on the island and is increasing the number of military personnel and equipment stationed there.

This development has raised serious concerns among Turkish military officials, who emphasize that all of this is occurring against the backdrop of the United States' overt support for Greece.
