President Armen Sarkissian Sends Letter to Joe Biden

The President of the Republic, Armen Sarkissian, has sent a letter of gratitude to U.S. President Joe Biden, expressing appreciation on behalf of the Armenian people for recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

In the letter, it is stated: “This is a bold and inspiring step that we have been waiting for for over a century, and it is significant for Armenians around the world, including American Armenians, who have spared no effort and enthusiasm in pursuit of recognition, and for all those who have sought justice.

Armenia also greatly appreciates the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2019, followed by a unanimous resolution from the U.S. Senate. The President's message is crucial in the process of the official recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the United States. With this declaration, the United States not only pays tribute to the victims of this horrific crime against humanity but also stands up for human rights, universal values, freedom, and democracy.

The international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide will contribute to the prevention of genocides worldwide and the eradication of impunity. Recognizing the Armenian Genocide is not only a correction of a historical mistake but also a clear message to Turkey to refrain from its ambitions in this volatile region.”

President Sarkissian also touched upon the prospects for the development of Armenian-American relations, noting that Armenia and the United States have always valued strong partnership relations based on mutual trust and readiness to deepen them: “There is great potential to strengthen U.S.-Armenia relations and enrich the bilateral and multilateral agenda. Cooperation in economy, new technologies, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and other fields could be promising in the context of bilateral relations. I express my full readiness to work diligently with you to achieve these important goals.”
