The National-Democratic Pole Sends Letter to Emmanuel Macron
To the President of the French Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron
Dear Mr. President,
On behalf of the Armenian people, the National-Democratic Pole expresses our profound gratitude to you and the entire French nation for your support and solidarity in this tragic moment for Armenia.
In the 21st century, France was the first to recognize the Armenian Genocide as a crime against humanity, by the decision of President Jacques Chirac in 2001, thereby returning our national issue to the spheres of global politics and historical justice.
During the autumn of 2020, amidst the terrorist war unleashed against Armenia, you stated, Mr. President, that France would stand by Armenia. Unfortunately, the peaceful initiatives of France and the proposed political support were rejected by the Armenian authorities under Kremlin control, leading to unprecedented disaster and calamity for the Armenian people.
The willingness of the French Senate to recognize the independence of Artsakh and your tremendous efforts aimed at resuming the peaceful process under the Minsk Group to restore international law, along with the demands of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French public for the release of Armenian captives held in Azerbaijan, inspire hope and belief in the protection of the Armenian people from a new genocidal disaster, a century after the Armenian Genocide.
Dear Mr. President, today there is an attempt, orchestrated by Russia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, to alienate the southern province of Armenia, Syunik, in order to secure Turkey’s direct land connection with Azerbaijan and Central Asia through the so-called “Mekhitar corridor,” at the expense of Armenian territories and interests. Specifically, this project aims to eliminate Armenia's border and its connection with Iran, thereby completely isolating and incapacitating our state.
In the current situation, we appeal to you, Mr. President, and through you to the people of France, asking for help and support. The Armenian government is entirely controlled by Russia and is unable to protect national interests. Therefore, to save the Armenian statehood, we find it essential to request that you consider the urgent possibility of deploying a French or international peacekeeping force on Armenia's southern borders to protect Armenian statehood and territorial integrity.
The National-Democratic Pole, as a force advocating for the restoration of Armenia's sovereignty, democracy, and the establishment and deepening of mutually beneficial relations with the West, particularly France, will, with the support of the Armenian people and progressive democratic forces, take every effort to restore Armenia's sovereignty and to ensure a quarter-century of peace and stability through the Armenian National Army.
To create the preconditions for the implementation of regional peace programs and subsequently ensure their realization, the National-Democratic Pole is ready for deep and comprehensive cooperation with the French government, its representatives, and the French embassy in Armenia.
With profound respect and gratitude,
The Council of the National-Democratic Pole
