Turkey Doesn't Need a Pretext for Aggression Against Any State, It Has Its Own Calculations: Suren Sargsyan

International relations specialist Suren Sargsyan published a post on his Facebook page responding to the question of whether Turkey will become more aggressive towards Armenia as a result of Biden's recognition.

Sargsyan’s post is presented below:

“1. I don't think so. Turkey can become aggressive without any pretext. The 44-day war is an example. Libya, Syria, Iraq, Cyprus, and Greece are further examples. Therefore, Turkey needs no pretext to launch an attack against any state. It has its own calculations, its own interests, and its expansive independence.

2. Moreover, what does Armenia have to do with Biden’s recognition? Biden made a promise to his citizens—his Armenian-American constituents, he was elected, and he has fulfilled his promise. He did not promise anything to Armenia. So if he can be aggressive, let it be against the USA.

By the way, did you notice that the Americans managed the shock? They ensured that the decision would not be shocking for Turkey. A shock could lead to uncontrollable consequences. That is why two weeks ago, the entire American press was flooded with reports about the recognition.

Additionally, the day before, Biden called Erdoğan and informed him of his decision. I believe that is why Turkey's reaction was not very stiff. At the same time, they did not respond harshly in order to downplay the significance of the event for their domestic audience—meaning they want to treat the fact of recognition lightly. They haven’t even recalled their ambassador yet, which is customary whenever such incidents occur.”
