Prisoners Send Video Messages to Families via ICRC

Individuals held captive in Azerbaijan as a result of the 44-day war have sent video messages to their families through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This method of communication with relatives has been implemented for the first time.

Armenians detained in Azerbaijan have also been given the opportunity to establish phone contact with their loved ones. Zara Amatuni, head of communication programs for the ICRC in Armenia, stated in an interview with the news outlet that this opportunity has been provided for individuals whose captivity Azerbaijan has confirmed, and who are regularly visited by ICRC staff from their Baku office.

“Sending messages via video is a new format that committee staff have been able to apply. We hope that we will be able to use these means as long as people remain in captivity. In this case, seeing one’s family, not just receiving a written letter in their handwriting, is significant. We plan that, if possible, families will also share similar messages with their relatives who are being held in Azerbaijan,” she said.
