Neither Maral Najaryan Nor Any Authorized Person Has Submitted a Written Request for a New Passport

Regarding the online publications titled "Maral Najaryan Is Not Being Issued a Passport", it has been confirmed that neither Maral Najaryan nor any authorized person on her behalf has submitted a written request to the Passport and Visa Department of the Police or its territorial subdivisions for the issuance of a new passport to Maral Najaryan. This was reported by the Police of the Republic of Armenia.

"At the same time, it is important to note that according to the Law on the Passport of the Citizen of the Republic of Armenia and the decision No. 821 of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated December 25, 1998, it is clearly stipulated that citizens of the Republic of Armenia are required to personally apply for a passport. A citizen submits an application for a passport in the Republic of Armenia to the police or, in a foreign state, to the diplomatic representation or consular establishment of the Republic of Armenia. The issued passport can be received either personally by the citizen or through an authorized person. The power of attorney does not require notarization.

Maral Najaryan can personally apply for a new citizen passport either to the Passport Department of the Police or its territorial subdivisions, as well as to any diplomatic representation of the Republic of Armenia in foreign states, including the Embassy of Armenia in Lebanon (located in Beirut).

We urge not to make unfounded or unverified statements and not to exploit the issues of our compatriots who have suffered losses due to the war to target the work of any subdivision of the police and to present it in an unfavorable light," the Police stated in their clarification.

Earlier, MP Naira Zohrabyan from the Prosperous Armenia faction wrote on her Facebook page that the Passport Department of the Police has refused to issue a passport to Maral Najaryan, who was freed from captivity, through an authorized person. According to her, the police stated that Maral Najaryan must return personally from Beirut.
