Most of the 'Sosiner Park' has come under Azerbaijani control, confirmed by the Mayor of Kapan
According to information spreading on the internet today, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his family members have been at the 'Sosiner Park' located in the Syunik region. The Azerbaijani president even published photos from the location.
To clarify whether the Aliyev family was indeed in 'Sosiner Park' near the city of Kapan in the Syunik region, Auroranews attempted to get in touch with relevant authorities.
We managed to contact the Mayor of Kapan, Gevorg Parsyan, who mentioned that most of the park is located in their territory.
In response to the clarifying question of whether it is in Azerbaijani territory, he stated, "I don’t want to say it like that; we can’t adapt to that thought. A small portion is under our control, the larger part is theirs. The demarcation has been done according to a map, without any barbed wire; positions have simply been established at the boundary between us and them."
Political scientist Hayk Martirosyan also commented on the photo shared by the Aliyevs, stating, "The photo was indeed taken in Sosiner Park. This area is located in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, which was once part of the Armenian SSR. It has never been part of Soviet Azerbaijan. Never. This is also reflected on Google maps as part of present-day Armenia. In the same map, which both Azerbaijanis and our authorities often refer to. The Aliyevs have published a photo from that territory. This signifies that the area has not only been gifted to Aliyev by Nikol Pashinyan but also more has been surrendered. If the park were directly on a new and illegal border, for security reasons, Aliyev would not visit that area. This means that a greater area in that segment has been handed over to Aliyev, and Sosiner Park has ended up in Azerbaijani secure rear. This is how Syunik is surrendered and donated - the heart of today’s Armenia."
