My Step Faction Nominates Nikol Pashinyan for Prime Minister

The My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia has nominated Nikol Pashinyan for the position of Prime Minister, guided by point 7 of part 1 of Article 8 and Article 140 of the Constitutional Law on the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly. This was announced by the My Step faction.

The statement notes that this process is necessary to dissolve the National Assembly and conduct snap parliamentary elections in June.

On April 26, the President of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan, released a statement indicating that according to part 3 of Article 140 of the Constitutional Law on the Rules of Procedure, the issue of the Prime Minister's election will be discussed on May 3 at 12:00 PM during a special meeting of the National Assembly convened by law.

On April 25, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan resigned in anticipation of early parliamentary elections. Pashinyan reminded that, following discussions with the President of the Republic and the leaders of parliamentary factions on March 18, he announced the decision to hold snap parliamentary elections on June 20 in Armenia.

According to the current Constitution of Armenia, conducting snap parliamentary elections is possible when the Prime Minister resigns and the National Assembly fails to elect a Prime Minister twice. After this, the National Assembly is considered dissolved by law, and snap parliamentary elections are held.
