Man in Armenia Regularly Forced Woman into Begging, Taking All Her Earnings

The investigation into a case of employing a woman, who was incapable of fully understanding the nature and significance of her actions due to mental dysfunction, has concluded in the Main Investigative Department for Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee, as reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the RA Investigative Committee.

According to the evidence gathered during the investigation, a 46-year-old man took advantage of the socio-economic hardships and mental health condition of a woman born in 1973, inviting her to his rented apartment under the pretext of cohabitation. Subsequently, from February 2019 to late December 2020, he repeatedly subjected her to violence, forcing her to beg on various streets of Yerevan, after which he took all the money she earned.

Based on the sufficient combination of evidence, the 46-year-old man has been charged under point 4 of part 2 of Article 132.2 of the RA Criminal Code. He has been placed in custody as a measure of restraint.

The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.

Notice: The suspect or accused in the alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the RA, with a legally enforceable court verdict.
