Garo Paylan Presents Bill for Recognition of Armenian Genocide to Turkish Parliament

Garo Paylan, a member of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party and an Armenian lawmaker, has submitted a bill to the presidency of the Turkish Parliament seeking recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The bill also proposes the removal of the names of those responsible for the genocide from public spaces and amendments to Turkey's citizenship law.

According to a report by Armenpress, referencing Istanbul's Agos newspaper, the justification for Paylan's proposed bill states that the Grand National Assembly of Turkey must take responsibility to officially acknowledge the Great Genocide suffered by the Armenian people. 'The great crime must be recognized by the Turkish Parliament, and 106 years after the Armenian Genocide, the victims must attain justice,' the draft mentions.

On April 24, Paylan sent a message stating that justice regarding the Armenian Genocide can only be achieved in Turkey. 'The Armenian Genocide occurred on this land, and justice for it can only be realized on this land. If Turkey confronts the Armenian Genocide, it will no longer matter what parliaments of other states say. For 106 years, the Armenian Genocide has been denied, and that is why it continues to be a topic of discussion in the parliaments of other countries,' Paylan emphasized.
