Criminal Case Initiated for Violence Against Goris Deputy Mayor Menua Hovsepyan

A criminal case has been initiated at the police station regarding the incident of violence against Goris Deputy Mayor Menua Hovsepyan under Article 309, Part 2 and Article 314, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, concerning the use of violence in the exercise of official duties and the commission of official forgery. This was announced to the media by the spokesperson for the Special Investigative Service, Marina Ohanyan.

The report about the incident was submitted by Hovsepyan's lawyer David Karapetyan, who stated that there was derogatory treatment towards the Deputy Mayor, including placing a foot on his head and saying, “Were you playing the hero? Go on,” then dragging him from one wall to another. Hovsepyan also suffered injuries to his face, and offensive remarks were made against him, all of which was recorded.

It is worth noting that Hovsepyan was arrested on April 22 on suspicion of organizing hooliganism under Article 38-258, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, in connection with protests against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Syunik. He was then transferred from Goris to the police department in Yerevan, where he was subjected to violence.
